8 June, Arriving Banff National Park

It was a short drive to Banff from Cochrane.  The only road enters town from the east.  Since it is contained within the boundaries of the National Park, every vehicle entering must purchase a park pass.  We got one for 4 days to extend to Jasper National Park to the north.  After setting up our trailers in one of the neatest RV parks so far (Tunnel Mountain) in the park, John and I wasted no time getting the mountain bikes out for a planned back country ride from Canmore back to Banff.

Mary and Pam dropped us off at a trailhead at around 7,000 feet in the middle of nowhere.  On the side of the road we saw a small group of shedding Mountain Goats.

Appropriately named, Goat Creek Trail started at the roadside and headed off west into the unknown.  Armed with bear spray (an absolute requirement just about any time we step from the car, we took off.

It turned out the trail could not be missed,

nor could the beauty of the landscape.
